What is one thing you wish you knew before starting Pump?

📢 DON'T CHEAT D24S CROSS OVER PLAY THE PATTERNS PROPERLY also that getting better scores doesn't mean you're not progressing.

📢 That playing often does not necessarily mean you'll become good at the game. There is some pattern analysis and study involved in higher levels.

📢 Don't tunnel vision on certain charts and focus on improvement over achievement.

And half of the battle is staying healthy outside of the game

📢 Kids will get in the way and you just have to run them down and sometimes ppl will watch and be kinda weird. Also, play around with AV!

📢 It's nice to have friends to play with around the same level to keep each other motivated but everyone plays at their own pace.

📢 That you can't cheat crossovers like you can in ddr. And also that hold notes will kill you if you don't actually hold them down the whole time. The mechanics of holds are different in each game.

📢 Watch out for old-school charts. Some older 17s, for example, are harder than they're now rated.

📢 I find double-stepping and avoiding crossovers to be quite easy on Pump. The only exception might be ↘️ ↗️ ↘️ ↗️ ↘️ type drills, but even they are still doable.

I'd say once you get to around 20s, and have got crossover patterns down, it's definitely helpful to learn how to double-step.

📢 Learn how to turn before you double-step. I’ve had players in the single-digits range watch me play and try to play like that. It won’t work out lol. I started changing my playstyle around s18s and I wouldn’t recommend anyone follow because I sacrificed a lot of other aspects of the game.

📢 Starting doubles is extremely tough (particularly middle 4/6 patterns, and the charts below ~D13 are varying levels of questionable since they throw complex patterns just at lower density).

Read much lower AV than your standard singles AV, process patterns without double-stepping to get good muscle memory in, and study YouTube videos if you need to.

📢 I wish I knew how important learning how to twist was. I thought I could get through anything by just spamming or double stepping no problem but I was wrong. Learning everything properly without double-stepping, or cheating patterns, is important.

📢 Once you finally learn how to do things properly and twist...you learn how to cheat things and not twist again in a different way. You build one habit just to learn the other habit again. But really it is actually a newer technique you will learn in the game after twists.
