Let's see what I’ve learned from them and what I suggest to avoid any kind of interruption as best as possible.

It’s not the kid's fault, it’s the parent's fault.

I know… I know… on the moment we can get really pissed off at the kid, but in reality, it’s the parent’s fault. I’ve seen a toddler run around my local arcade with their parents nowhere in sight. And then randomly, the kid tripped and fell near the PIU pad. His eye went near the metal corner of the pad. Can you imagine the situation we’d have if he was just a bit closer to the corner? Some parents really don’t give a shit. The second they enter the arcade they just set their demons free. So we need to be more vocal about some things.

Don’t even give them a chance

The SECOND you see in your peripheral vision, a child put his foot on the pad, say something. Otherwise, you risk having him jump on the pad and potentially hurting himself. Even if he/she doesn’t fall, they might get too close to you and get hit by one of your crossovers, who knows? You might be playing singles, but kids don’t know that, they will jump on the pad regardless of what you’re playing.
