How about we ask ChatGPT for pump shoes?
Okay.. so maybe that was a bad idea.
So there are a few things you need to look for in shoes. I will also address socks and barefoot and specialized shoes.
What to look for in shoes
- ✅ Flexibility: Try flexing the shoe in both directions. You will need to press on the red arrows with the tip of the shoes, so make sure it can flex downwards.
- ✅ Flat: In general, flatter shoes will be better, this is tied to the first point and is useful for heel-toe. It’s a less important aspect if your shoe is very flexible.
- ✅ Weight: Make sure the shoe is as light as possible.
- 1️⃣ Sole thickness: Subjective point #1. Some people like a thick sole on a light shoe because of shock absorption. I find it easier to do runs because they are less tiring. You feel like you need to move less and it feels less tiring.
Others prefer a very thin sole as much as possible. This allows them to feel the sensors and do bracketing easier. It also makes their feet less bulky giving them the advantage when doing twists.
- 2️⃣ Grip: Subjective point #2. Some prefer a more slippery feeling and others will prefer a grippier feeling. One thing is for sure, please get the correct grip or slip according to your preference. There are tons of shoes in both categories, look online if you find nothing in stores.
So, if the shoe you really want for Pump is too grippy, do not buy it.

Without going into too much detail, baby powder and Windex become things that players use to help them with this point. And this causes controversy and anger toward people in the community. Please refer to grip or glide section where I go over this.
